Our Story

A Community-Rooted Movement

Founded in 2024 and based in Meru County, Kenya, the Pamoja Initiative for Rural Development (PIFORD) was born out of a simple belief: that resilient communities, working together, can transform their own futures.

"Pamoja" — the Swahili word for together — sits at the heart of everything we do. We work hand in hand with communities across Meru, Isiolo, Laikipia, Tharaka-Nithi and Embu counties, listening first and acting with them, not just for them.

From climate action and youth empowerment to education, social protection, gender equality and peacebuilding, our programs are designed to be sustainable, locally led, and responsive to the real challenges rural communities face every day.

Our Mission

To improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations through sustainable development programs.

Our Vision

Our Values

Community ownership, sustainability, integrity, inclusion, and partnership. We believe lasting change is built together.
